Where Is The Chrome Lacrosse Team From? (2022)

This article takes an in-depth look at where the players at Chrome Lacrosse Club come from.

Do you know which players attended the same high school? Which players were NCAA teammates, and which were fierce conference rivals?

Chrome And The Tour-Based Model

The Premier Lacrosse League has a tour-based model with all the clubs coming together at weekends to the same venue.

This means that the Chrome Lacrosse Club doesn’t have a permanent base to call its home.

But you’d be wrong to think that the coaches don’t care where their players come from. The fastest way to establish a team culture in a young club is to have a core set of players who already know each other.

When the PLL was first set up, they had this to say about forming the teams:

…these teams have been built around players who have played in colleges together or played rivalries against each other…

Divya Goel, 2019

Although players have come and gone since the inaugural season, there is still a pattern at Chrome of higher representation from a few colleges and conferences.

This article looks at the current players. We’ve got a separate list of the Chrome Lacrosse Club rosters since the league began.

Which Colleges Are Chrome Players From?

The above map shows nine states in the United States with alumni at Chrome. Just scan across for the logo!

The current team comes from twelve NCAA Division 1 colleges across these states. There are a few other colleges from lower divisions that are also represented.

Maryland is the highest-represented college at Chrome with four players on the roster. Duke comes in next with three.

Terrapins at Chrome

Logan Wisnauskas was selected in the 2022 college draft, while Nick Grill came in the 2021 version.

Both were teammates at Maryland.

Colin Heacock graduated in 2017 while Jesse Bernhardt is the elder statesman from the class of 2013.

Blue Devils at Chrome

The three Duke University players hardly overlapped in their college days.

JT Giles-Harris was selected by Chrome in the 2021 college draft.

In contrast, Will Harris and Mike Manley were in the inaugural roster of 2019. They graduated in 2015 and 2012 respectively.

I’ll also mention that JT Giles-Harris hails from Puerto Rico. He played for the Puerto Rico National Team at the World Championships in Israel after his freshman year at Duke.

Other colleges at Chrome

Johns Hopkins and RIT have two players on the roster.

One of those players from each college is a captain.

In our review of player salaries at Chrome, we estimate that the captains John Ranagan (a Blue Jay) and Jordan Macintosh (RIT) are two of the top earners. They are also the two most experienced players at the club.

These are the colleges that have one representative at the club:

  • Army, West Point
  • Brown
  • Denver
  • Georgetown
  • High Point
  • Hofstra
  • Loyola
  • North Carolina
  • Notre Dame
  • Ohio State
  • Providence
  • UMass

Former Rivals, Current Teammates

It may seem like having players from so many different colleges doesn’t make for a big percentage of the roster with prior history.

But of course, the Maryland players at Chrome would have a huge local rivalry with John Hopkins in the Big Ten Conference.

The two Blue Jays on the roster are joined by Ryan Terefenko from Ohio University which is in the same conference.

The three Duke players are joined by Pat Aslanian of Indiana and Justin Anderson of North Carolina. These three universities are rivals in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Hometowns and High Schools

We’ve looked at the colleges, but what about the players’ hometowns?

None of the Chrome players are from the same hometown.

However, two of the players from Maryland attended the same high school. Colin Heacock and Logan Wisnauskas went to the Boys’ Latin High School in Baltimore.

With a five-year age difference, Heacock was in his final years when Wisnauskas was starting at the school.

Heacock was a four-year starter for the school lacrosse team and was also a star basketball player.

He had a relatively slow start to his freshman year as a lacrosse player, perhaps due to his dual sporting interests at school. He found his groove in his subsequent college years.

Like Heacock, Logan Wisnauskas also went to Maryland where he put in stellar performances. In his final year of 2022, his record points-scoring haul helped the Terrapins win the National Championship.

Wisnauskas was also given the Tewaarton Award for the best college player of the year.

Canadian Players At The Club

There are four Canadian players on the Chrome roster.

That doesn’t quite match the higher numbers at other clubs like Cannons and Chaos.
